Sonic 3 is racing into theaters December 20. I had the chance to sit down with Tika Sumpter, the pretzel lady herself, to hear what Maddie and Tom will be getting up to in the latest Sonic the Hedgehog film.
Tika Sumpter Sonic 3 Interview: Maddie & Tom Are Suiting Up With Sonic
When the first Sonic move came out I instantly adored Maddie and Tom. Tika Sumpter and James Marsden held their own on screen with the crazy antics of Sonic and most importantly made us care about them. Maddie is 100% the type of friend I would love to hangout with, yoga poses and all. In Sonic 2, Maddie and her sister Rachel got to kick some butt during the wedding sequence. Now in Sonic 3, going off the trailers, Maddie, Tom, Rachel, and Randall are suiting up again to help their boys stop Shadow from destroying the world.
What is Maddie getting up to in Sonic 3? In that trailer she looks ready to kick some butt and I'm here for it.
Maddie from the very beginning, I told them. I have an eight-year-old. It's awesome. But I don't want to be pregnant in the movie where I'm sitting there on the phone the whole time. There are women out there who kick butt every day, you know?
The boys are doing their thing. They're out and about. This is the first time you see them as a team going out together and we're [Maddie and Tom] home. We actually get to be part of some of the mission this time. And it's super exciting that the writers were like Maddie doesn't just sit around. She's active and proactive. She's like the heart of the movie in the sense of [nurturing] and [standing] up for her kids. But she's also, like we all are, badass.
