We all love to talk about Lilo or Stitch, but Nani is just as important as those two when it comes to the heart of the Disney classic. At SDCC, we had the chance to speak with Sydney Agudong about the positive reception of the film and of course what she would like for Nani in Lilo and Stitch 2.
Sydney Agudong Interview
On how it feels to be in the biggest movie of the year:
“I feel like the first thing that comes to mind always, and I know I say it a lot, is gratitude. I feel very blessed to have had all the people that have helped me get here, and to be able to come back home and then celebrate the win with my community and the world is kind of insane. And seeing the love that it's received is unbelievable.”
We left off with Nani going to college and using the portal device to visit with Lilo. What is going to happen in the sequel? We don't know for sure but Sydney has some ideas for Nani.
“I think whenever you're stepping into a role for the first time, you're still discovering. There's going to be things after the sequel that I'm going to be like, oh my gosh, that's why Nani does this. But I feel like I'm excited to explore more. I'm excited to bring more Pidgin into it. [And] hopefully bring a little bit more spice to her life and see what complications come when she goes to college.”
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Why you need to watch Lilo and Stitch
I was a kid when the animated version of Lilo & Stitch hit theaters and I remember falling instantly in love with that blue agent of chaos and the world he lived in. Fast forward and I still feel the same. Lilo & Stitch was everything I wanted it to be. It had all the moments that make me laugh (or cry) while also adding fresh sequences that will likely earn their own spaces in your Disney movie memory bank. It's as cute, fluffy, and fun as Stitch himself while also never forgetting that this mischievous little creature helped two grieving sisters find their way forward in their new reality. Rebuilding their Ohana into something that may look a little different but is still good.
