The film about the power of connections that will make even the most stone hearted person feel something – Rental Family, is now available now on Digital and coming to Blu-ray and DVD February 17. Read on to learn what bonus features await when you bring home this emotionally, heartwarming film.
Rental Family
Set in modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.
Rental Family surprised me. For being marketed as something lighthearted and feel good I found myself getting more emotional than I would have thought. This cast, the overall tone and message of the script, all work in tandem to deliver a film that is meaningful. It has things to say about what it means to be a person and how we all just have this desire to be seen. We don't need the world to recognize us but it is crucial to our souls that someone sees us and believes that we matter. It is a film that will melt the heart of even the most stoic of viewers. Rental Family absolutely topped my list of favorites in 2025 and I'm looking forward to watching it again.
