In January we were all pumped to start fresh, kick out bad habits, and finally make the positive changes we have been talking about for years. Now coming to the end of April I wonder how well we are doing with those goals? For me I have stayed true to my resolutions…for the most part. Hey no one is perfect!
One of the goals I made was to makeover my kitchen. Sure I eat healthy and cook healthy but kinda like technology there is always something better or in this case healthier to use. That meant looking for substitutions for some of my staples.
I won't lie, not all substations taste that great (to me) and I abandoned some of them but the important thing is to try and find what works for you and your family. One of my favorite substitutions is organic yogurt. I use it to make dips, pancakes, toppings, it has a TON of uses.
Another great trick of mine is subbing out sugar for a natural (keyword natural) zero calorie sweetener. I tried Stevia but could not get past the flavor. So in my morning tea/coffee I have been using monk fruit. It doesn't have that bitter aftertaste and since I drink a lot of tea/coffee (no lectures please, it's what keeps me functioning!) it has helped to cut out all the sugar I was consuming.
Still, trying to figure out substitutions or easy ways to stay on track can be hard and time consuming. Lucky for you and me, ZonePerfect has provided this easy to follow guide with lots of “swaptions.”
Another tip: keeping high protein snacks like ZonePerfect bars in your purse, gym bag, or car will help you not binge eat on unhealthy foods when you need a pick me up!

I try to keep my routine, and I try to choose snacks that are healthy rather than Easter candy! I find that if I don’t have it in my house, I do better.

I definitely need to keep these swaps in mind – I’ve heard a lot of great things about spaghetti squash but haven’t gotten the nerve to try it yet.. I need to be more adventurous!
