Hey dudes! Welcome back to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson) and original cashier Ed (Kel Mitchell) are reunited in the present day at the fast-food restaurant with a hilarious new group of employees. Dexter is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails and needs a job. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old position back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.
Good Burger 2 does what many sequels do that come years or decades (ouch) after the original– recreate the magic in a way that reminds everyone why they loved the original. In some ways, Good Burger 2 is exactly like the first film. The overarching plot is the same– Dexter is a schemer, Ed is a naive but charming guy, a rival burger joint is after the store, and there is even a surprise delivery that wows everyone. That's not to say it is a bad thing, after all I grew up with the original and this one had me laughing and grinning along as it brought back memories. It just means everything is predictable, but I'm not looking for Memento level plot twists in a film that centers around a fast food burger place. What makes the movie work so well is the chemistry between Kenan and Kel. In the years since their show, the original movie, and All That, the two have honed their comedic timings and their friendship has naturally grown. All of that is evident as the chaos ensues, making Good Burger 2 the perfect watch for family movie night or whenever you need a grin-inducing pick-me-up.
