Still Awesome And Living The Dream: The LEGO Movie 2 Review

Everything is still awesome and don't you worry, The Catchy Song is super catchy. Emmet, Lucy, Unikitty, Batman, Metal Beard, Benny, and the rest of the gang are back in The LEGO Movie 2. We screened it earlier this week and loved it. The whole audience laughed and every age group in the room enjoyed the film from start to finish. And yeah, I'll say it: I liked The LEGO Movie 2 better than The LEGO Movie.

Buckle up Planty and hold onto your fronds, The LEGO Movie 2 is in theaters today! Read on for a spoiler free The LEGO Movie 2 review.

The LEGO Movie 2 Review

So what is the story all about? Well, it’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens of Bricksburg are now facing a huge new threat. The DUPLO invaders from outer space are wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt. In their quest to defeat them, they will travel to the faraway Sis-Star System, encounter new creatures, bad guys, and a song that will definitely get stuck inside your head.

The LEGO Movie 2 Better Than The Original

I liked the first film, it made me laugh, it had it's moments. The LEGO Movie 2 made me laugh the entire time. From jokes about Shiny Vampires to why Marvel Characters aren't in the movie, I seriously couldn't stop giggling.

Everyone is back from the original and some have changed their appearances to reflect this new, Dystopian world. DUPLO times call for toughening up. Unless you're Emmet of course.

The LEGO Movie 2 Review

The movie picks up right where the other left off, with the DUPLO invaders announcing they are here to destroy Bricksburg. Just like in the first film, there is the human/real life aspect. I loved the zoom outs to our world and especially the mom. You'll see why when you watch.

The new characters introduced: General Mayhem and Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi are great additions to the group of LEGO Figures already assembled. They should probably work on their communication skills though…

My daughter is obsessed with General Mayhem and I don't blame her. I want hair like hers and that awesome spaceship. While Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi can literally be whatever you want her to be. She looks like something my son would put together with his random LEGOs.

LEGO Life Lesson

In the first LEGO Movie, everyone learned that we all have something special inside of us. But what happens when your world is at stake and being the nice guy doesn't seem like an asset? Emmet struggles with this throughout The LEGO Movie 2. With his friends taken he is desperate to get them back.

On his way to the Sis-Star System he meets Rex Dangervest. Rex is the embodiment of all things manly, and Chris' Pratt's movie career. Emmet is torn between keeping his positive, can-do attitude and Rex telling him to toughen up, essentially becoming an angrier version of himself.

In the end Emmet and us in the audience need to learn to be true to ourselves, because that is what makes us The Special.

Is The LEGO Movie 2 Family Friendly?

100% yes. The LEGO Movie 2 is something the whole family, no matter their age will love. All the songs are awesome, the adult jokes aren't inappropriate like some animated movies make them, and the action isn't over the top scary.

I don't remember hearing any bad words so I think you're safe on that. All in all it is the perfect pick for family movie night.
