March 20, 2024 By Ashley Leave a Comment

The highly anticipated followup to the hit 90s TV series, X-Men 97 is here! After the death of Professor X, Cyclops and the other mutants are still trying to maintain peace in a world that has yet to fully accept mutants. When a former foe comes knocking offering an olive branch, no one knows what to think. Let's get into “To me, my X-Men” with this X-Men 97 Episode 1 Easter Eggs, Breakdown, and recap.

X-Men 97 Episode 1 Easter Eggs

X-Men 97 Episode 1 Easter Eggs & Breakdown

The Classic Intro and theme song hit and yes I had the biggest grin possible when it happened.

Set in 1997, the Twin Towers are visible as the scene is set for the opening sequence. On a telephone pole is a sign: “Report Mutants” with a giant slash through it.

On the news, there is a story about the death of Charles Xavier, Professor X, at the hands of former NSA Agent Henry Gyrich.

FOH- Friends of Humanity, a pro-human hate-group founded by Graydon Creed, is kidnapping mutants.

Wearing an inhibitor collar, as seen in the live action MCU, Roberto da Costa (mutant name: Sunspot) has been captured by FOH.

A storm (ahem STORM) starts to form outside. Carl Denti, the leader of the FOH mob, tells them to get ready. They are armed with Sentinel Blasters.

Carl Denti is a former FBI field agent who began calling himself the X-Cutioner, a villain set on punishing mutants.

The X-Men arrive, led by Cyclops. Denti uses a severed Sentinel Hand to attack them. Cyclops and the team win the day though, taking some of FOH into custody.

X-Men 97 Episode 1 Easter Eggs Daily Bugle

A Daily Bugle flies by. The cover story reads. Benetton’s Mutant Fashion Show. Other stories include Is Spider-Man A Mutant? and Hellfire Gala text by Eddie Brock, photos by Peter Parker.

The picture shows Storm, Dust, Banshee, Nature Girl, and Blink.

Back at the mansion, Gambit is making beignets. He and Rogue tell Cyclops he needs to chill out a bit. Morph appears looking like Xavier, teasing Cyclops. Gambit then throws a playing card at Cyclops but a pregnant Jean Grey stops it and sends it outside to explode.

Roberto has woken up in Beast's lab. There he also meets Jubilee. Beast has been examining him but Roberto wants to leave. Cyclops wants answers about his kidnappers but Roberto doesn't seem to know anything.

Jubilee takes Roberto to the Danger Room to train and to figure out what his mutant abilities are since he won't show them off. A projection of Magneto is inside to fight. Roberto doesn't care but he is scared when Wolverine appears out of nowhere and tackles him.

Cyclops and Jean are now asking Dr. Cooper about the Sentinel Weapons. Jean mentions Bolivar Trask but Cooper says Trask has been missing ever since he tried to swap President Kelly’s brain with a Sentinel Computer. She also tells them that Trask would need a Master Mold facility in order to make more Sentinels and the only one they know of was destroyed by the X-Men years ago.

Dr. Valerie Cooper, an assistant to the President's National Security Adviser, was an important person in the US government who tried to help the world cope with the growing number of superhumans.

Trask is a scientist and robotics expert that created the Sentinels, robots capable of killing mutants. His Master Mold was created in order to have the ability of building an army of MK I Sentinels on its own.

Xavier's death certificate sits on Cyclop’s desk. Jean wants Cyclops to think about life beyond the team now that they are having a son.

Roberto has gone missing from the mansion. Cyclops tasks Wolverine with finding him. Those two still don't get along so some things never change.

Morph teases Wolverine about his love for Jean. Meanwhile, Jubilee finds Roberto before the FOH does.

Cyclops and the others go to visit Gyrich to find out info on Trask. Gyrich laughs them off so Jean uses Cerebro to get into his mind and see his memories. Someone else is there though and Jean is pulled into a warped reality. In it, she holds her baby in her arms but the Master Mold is there, tombstones surround her. She snaps back to reality.

They learn that Trask is in the Sahara Desert so they head there. Trask confronts them, activating Sentinels to attack.

Storm comes in and the Sentinels announce an Omega Level Threat Detected. Trask and his robots are defeated, again.

Jubilee relates to Roberto wanting to run away.

They all gather for a basketball game outside. As Cyclops starts to tell them he plans to step aside and leave the school, they get an alert that an intruder has breached the professor’s old office. It’s Magneto with the news that in Charles Xavier’s will- his fortune and the school…everything has been given to Magneto.
