Gambit is back but is he a friend or foe. Depends on who you ask but the answer is complicated to say the least. Maybe Rogue can get through to him. Let’s get into “The Dead Man’s Hand” with this X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 8 Easter Eggs, Breakdown, and recap.
X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 8 Easter Eggs & Breakdown
Rogue is dreaming about Genosha. Gambit and her are dancing, they kiss, touching each other skin to skin. It’s all lovely until he looks like a zombie.
The X-Men are playing poker- no powers! Alarms start to blare, a military aircraft is approaching the island. It’s Cable and Jubilee. They have the body of Apocalypse with them.
Jubilee shows Rogue the card they found- Queen of Hearts. Whatever was brought back might not actually be Remy.
X-Force wants Xavier to use Cerebra to find Remy, Rogue thinks they want to kill Gambit but Jubilee and Archangel tell her they want to free him from corruption and that she can help using her powers.
Cerebra is the upgraded version of Cerebro, created by Forge. In the comics, Cerebra was inside a Sentinel body so that “she” could move around and help the X-Men.
Xavier finds Remy in New Orleans. Gambit grabs him and the Cerebra helmet comes off, purple smoke emanating from it. Xavier fears there is more to the darkness than they know. Rogue and the others go to Louisiana in search of Gambit.
Belladonna and Robert show up at the church of Candra. Gambit is waiting for them. He starts dealing out Tarot Cards. Death is evolution.
Candra is an immortal mutant known as an External. These mutants are not only immortal but are said to only be able to die if another of their kind kills them.
Gambit’s minions, led by Belladonna and Robert attack the X-Men’s plane. Rogue finds Gambit. She touches him but nothing happens. He puts her to sleep and takes Nightcrawler with them.
Morph tells everyone all the news was spooking the kids so he put on the Exorcist for them to watch.
Wolverine, Storm, Morph, and Forge go to Louisiana to help. Colossus is left in charge of the school.
Rogue wakes up in a house. She sits down for dinner with Remy. He tells her this is their second chance. Apocalypse had a love too- a priestess in Egypt named Candra. She convinced him to give her a piece of his power.
Her relic can make Rogue an immortal like him. The Assassin’s Guild calls upon Candra. Remy threatens her and she laughs at him. But he is able to kill her and take the relic. Before anything else happens, the team arrives and they all begin to fight. The only one who is a match for the possessed guild though is Nightcrawler.
Remy puts the relic on Rogue. His bo staff is now a scythe. (Horseman of Death) He goes after Xavier and they fight in the battlefield of Gambit’s mind. He reaches out to Xavier but Apocalypse also reveals himself, pulling Remy back in. He tries to also absorb Xavier but a bright light appears. It’s Rogue.
She reaches into Apocalypse and pulls Remy out but Apocalypse is still there. After an explosion of light, they go back to the X-Corp building. Remy’s vitals are faint but his neural readings are bizarre. If they don’t do something soon, Apocalypse will regain control of Gambit.
X-Factor shows up, wanting to team up with Cable.
The Tower Card– means sudden change, chaos, and a dramatic awakening.
X-Men 97 Season 2 episodes 1-7 are now streaming on Disney+.
