Cable knows Apocalypse will fight to get out of Gambit’s mind prison. The only solution is to kill Gambit.
Rogue, Beast, and Nightcrawler find their way onto SHIP that is underwater. They are looking for a way to defeat Apocalypse and save Gambit. Maybe the Celestial monolith can help.
Rogue is met with a warning- Those who enter the celestial shrine do not come out without paying a price. She goes in, refusing to turn back.
X-Factor and X-Force show up to attack X-Corps. Havok warns Dr. Cooper that this will be seen as declaring war on mutantkind.
Cable disables the shield, allowing them to get to the island. He then comes face to face with his parents.
Inside the shrine, Eson tells Rogue she doesn’t belong there. He also takes the relic’s powers from her. But she doesn’t give up. Eson then tells her to prove how much she wants to save Remy. To do that she has to sacrifice her life for his.
Everyone is fighting to either kill Gambit or protect him. Polaris and Bishop are overrun. Gambit is out of his hospital bed and helps them fight.
Cable shoots him and they all think he is dead. But all that did was release Apocalypse.
He overtakes all the X-Men except Xavier, “you belong to me my X-Men.”
Rogue appears, glowing with power, and releases everyone from Apocalypse’s mind control. She grabs his face and pulls him into her fists, caging him inside the relic. She gives it to Cable for safekeeping.
In Uncanny Avengers (2012) #21–22, Rogue absorbs the powers of hundreds of Earth’s mightiest heroes including the Avengers and X-Men in order to face down a Celestial threat – The Executioner.
“Rogue really do always come to Gambit’s rescue.” She kisses him and her power fades. She is ready to accept her fate but she doesn’t die. Because Nightcrawler took her place.
He also spoke to Eson on SHIP and offered up his life for Rogue’s life. Nightcrawler assured Eson that his end would bring forth more life. “I have faith.”
X-MEN 97 Season 2 Finale POST CREDIT SCENE
Dr. Cooper is looking at files while the TV shows that Graydon Creed is now president. She is reading the Mutant Threat Assessment Files on Mystique. The real Val Cooper comes into the office and is shot and killed by Mystique.
